Self Portrait Final Writing/Questions
During the Beyond the Selfie final, one characteristic of mine that I wished to make most prevalent was my different/odd personality. People during this time period tend to receive a lot of hate for being odd or weird, and I was trying to bring some beauty to that during the course of this project. I also attempted to bring to light my creative and thoughtful traits as they are a big part of who I am. I have learned a lot about the art of taking beautiful and more thoughtful photographs than I did before, taking into account the rule of thirds, lighting, positioning, and much more. Additionally, I learned how to use basic (and some advanced) photoshop skills to bring my photographs to life and make them much more interesting. I believe my best project is my Beyond the Selfie Final as it encompasses a lot of what I have learned. Additionally, it is the project I am most proud of and more willing to show to others and spent the most time on. My favorite type of photography is one that requires a lot of photoshop as it creates a more interesting image and brings about much more creativity, symbolism, and uniqueness. For example, my picture in which there are two of me, one wearing a dress and another wearing sweats, is much more symbolic and creative than the picture of me flipping my hair. I discovered my more creative side through this photo class, as manipulating pictures is much quicker than painting/drawing so I see more examples of what I can do and I indulge myself in more practice. I experienced challenges mostly in the beginning of the semester as I had not had much experience with photography and had a bit of a hard time figuring out how to make a picture beautiful. However, with more practice, I began to discover how to manipulate my sceneries and my camera in order to take photos that looked how I intended them to. This class taught me much about the nature of art and creativity, and I will continue to use these skills throughout my artistic career.
